TUESDAY, March 7th, 1876.
The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Ide.
Present at the call of the roll the following members:
Messrs. Smith, (Speaker,) Dunbar, Mattingly, Boyer, Usil-
ton, Hodges, Robinson, Rullman, Bird, Lancaster, Hooper,
Baldwin, Whitelock, Curtis, Smith, of Balto, co., Given,
Fitzjarrell, Dodson, Lankford, Gunby, Ford, Lambdin,
Waters, of Dor., Briscoe, Constable, Ward, Snowden, Hance,
Gwynn, Cockey, Neal, Purnell, Onley, Riggs, Hinks, Naill,
Koons, Rutledge, Boyle, Vandiver, Goldsborough, Rusk
Berkemeier, Lewis, McWilliams, Hoblitzell, McGlone, Co-
burn, Stewart, McAleese, Gill, Hart, Loane, Chaisty,, Hess,
Harig. Albaugh, Sanders, Fenton, Scott, Farrow, Ranger,
Jones, Canby, Griffith, Rawlings, Atkinson, Sprigg, Brooke,
Brown, Rinehart, Lamotte, Waters, of Car'l, Donaldson,
Clark, Dashiell, Gordy, Barnard, Browning—79.
Mr. Smith, Speaker, presented the petition of Daniel J.
Rose and numerous other citizens, praying for the appropria-
tion of $1,000,000 to colored schools.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.
Mr. Ward presented the petition i»f Jacob Clay, Livings-
ton T. Bennett and 225 other citizens of Cecil county, pro-
testing against the passage oi a law prohibiting splashing for
pike fish in Elk and Bohemia Rivers.
Which was read and referred to the Cecil delegation.
Mr. Naill presented the petition of Samuel Wolfe and
ethers, for repeal of Section 176, chapter 314, Acts of 1870.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.
Mr. Sprigg presented the petition and protest of 248 of the
citizens of Allegany county, against the passage of the bill
now before the House of Delegates, restricting Building Asso-
ciations, &c.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.
Mr. Whitelock presented the petition of 63 lawyers and
merchants of Baltimore, asking a change in the usury laws
Of Maryland.
Which was read und referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.
