Andy whereas, It is proper that some measures should be
adopted by this General Assembly to ascertain the truth of this
information, and, if possible, secure the reduction of the said
charges ; therefore be it
Ordered, That the Committee of Ways and Means have
the power hereby granted to them to summon before them,
and administer oaths to witnesses, and to compel the pro-
duction of all papers necessary to arrive at the information,
and accomplish the purposes mentioned in the preamble
aforesaid.
On motion of Mr. Brooke, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Boyle be excused from attendance in
this House until Tuesday next.
On motion of Mr. Waters, of Dorchester, it was
Ordered, That Messrs. Smith and Lambdin be excused
from the service of this House from 2 o'clock to-day, until
Tuesday next, to visit their familes.
On motion of Mr. Koons,
Leave was granted to the Frederick delegation to introduce
a bill to repeal the Act of 1874, chap. 285, prohibiting the
sale of ardent spirits within three miles of Hansonville Post-
office, in Frederick county, and re-enact the same with
amendments.
On motion of Mr. Bird,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Bird, Turner and Dun-
bar, to introduce a bill to authorize the County Commission-
ers of Calvert county to levy an amount of money sufficient
to repair public buildings in Calvert county.
On motion of Mr. Ward,
Leave was granted to the Cecil delegation to introduce a
bill to incorporate the Elkton and Delaware Junction Rail-
road Company.
On motion of Mr. Neal,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Neal, Cockey and Dunbar to
introduce a bill for the further protection of the oyster inter-
est in Queen Anne's county.
On motion of Mr. Constable,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill entitled an Act to amend the charter of the
Eastern Shore Railroad Company and its supplements, and
to authorize the said Company to adjust its bonded debt, and
interest thereon, with its creditors.
On motion of Mr. Smith, of Dorchester,
Leave was granted to the Dorchester delegation to intro-
duce a bill to protect fish in the Black-water river, in Dor-
chester county.
