could not help being impressed with the great need of a new
building for the female prisoners.
The present one is badly ventilated, and a miserable affair.
In case of fire, the inmates in all probability would be
burned to death.
We most respectfully urge that you take such steps as you
think proper, to bring this matter before our Legislature, so
that appropriation sufficient for the improvement may be
made.

Mr. Vandiver submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Engrossing Clerk, (Thos. C. Boone,)
have charge of the Committee Clerks of this House, who are
required to report to him for duty each morning of the
session, and to be under his supervision; and he is required
to report promptly any failure of any Clerk to discharge his
duties, or any inattention thereto, to the Chief Clerk of this
House.

The question recurring upon the adoption of the order,
Mr. Gill submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PPOPOSED.
After the word "House" in line 4, insert the following:
"except the Clerks of the Committee on Ways and Means,
and the Clerk to the Committee on Claims."
Which was rejected.
The question then recurring upon the adoption of the

Mr. Stewart demanded the previous question.
The demand bring sustained,
The order was then adopted.
Mr. Hoblitzell submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the presentation and disposition of petitions,
memorials. &c., in the Order of business, be changed, so to
come in after unfinished business.
