THURSDAY, February 24th, 1876.
The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Steele.
Present at the call of the roll, the following members :
Messrs. Smith, (Speaker,) Mattingly, Boyer, Usilton,
Hodges, Robinson, Rullman, Bird, Lancaster, Hawkins,
Hooper, Baldwin, Whitelock, Curtis, Smith, of B co., Given,
Dotison, Lankford, Gunby, Ford, Lambdin, Smith of Dor.,
Waters, of Dor., Briscoe, Constable, Ward, Snowden,
Gwynn, Cockey, Neal, Purnell, Onley, Riggs, Hinks, Naill,
Rutledge, Boyle, Vandiver, Culbreth, Goldsborough, Rusk,
Berkemeier, Lewis, McWilliams. Hoblitzell, McGlone, Co-
bum, Stewart, McAleese, Gill, Hart, Loane, Chaisty, Hess,
Harig, Albaugh, Sanders, Fenton, Scott, Farrow, Ran-
ger, Jones, Cauby, Griffith, Rawlings, Atkinson, Sprigg,
Brooke, Brown, Rinehart, Lamotte, Waters, of Car'l, Don-
aldson, Dashiell, Gordy, Barnard—75.
Mr Waters, of Dorchester, submitted the following
order:
Ordered, That bills on their third reading shall be taken
up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, immediately after
reports from Select Committees are read, until all such
bills now on their passage are disposed of; but nothing in
this order shall conflict with the action by the House upon
those bills which may up to this time have been made the
orders of the day for either of those days.
Which was read a first time.
On motion of Mr. Mattingly, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Dunbar, of St. Mary's, be granted
leave of absence from this House for one week, on account
of urgent business.
The Secretary of the Senate delivered
A bill entitled an Act to provide for the payment of a sum
of money to I. Nevitt Steele, Philip F Thomas and S.
Teackle Wallis, for professional services rendered the State in
the prosecution of its claims against the Baltimore and Ohio
Railroad Company.
Which was read a first time and referred to the Com-
mittee on Claims.
Also, delivered,
A bill entitled an Act to amend Article 67, of the Public
