Ordered, That the memorial of J. Morrison Harris be re-
ferred to a Select Committee of this House to investigate the
allegation therein made, and that the said Committee shall
hold their sittings in the City of Baltimore, with power to
send for persons and papers, administer oaths and employ a
stenographer to report the testimony taken before them, and
to have the same printed.
Pending which,
Mr. Constable submitted the following amendment.
Ordered, That the petition of J. Morrison Harris be re-
ferred to a select committee of——members, which committee
shall have power to sit in the City of Baltimore, at any and
such times as it may deem necessary, and to send for books,
papers and documents, and summon and examine on oath
witnesses, which committee shall report at the earliest possi-
ble date.
Which was read.
The question recurring upon the adoption of the amend-
ment,
Mr. Donaldson moved that the House do now adjourn until
to-morrow morning at eleven o'clock.
The question recurring upon concurring in the motion,
Mr. Baldwin moved that the House do now take a recess
until 7 o'clock this P. M.
Decided in the negative.
The question then recurring upou the motion to adjourn,
Mr. Donaldson demanded the yeas and nays.
