The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following Mes-
sage.
BY THE SENATE,
January 12, 1876.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:
We intite you to be present in the Senate Chamber at 12
o'clock M. to participate with us in the inauguration of the
Governor elect, and to witness the administration of the
oath by the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals, in com-
pliance with the requirements of the Constitution and Laws
of the State.
We will appoint a committee to wait upon your Honorable
Body, and conduct you to our chamber.

Secretary.
Which was read.
Mr. Rusk submitted the following message.
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 12th, 1876.
Gentlemen of the Senate :
We have received your message requesting the attendance
of the members of the House of Delegates in the Senate
Chamber at the hour of 12 o'clock noon, to participate in
the inauguration of His Excellency, John Lee Carroll, Gov-
ernor elect, and respectfully accept the invitation.

MILTON Y. KIDD,
Chief Clerk.
Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.
Messrs, Knight, Aydelotte and Brewer, a Committee on
the part of the Senate, now appeared in the House, and
through their Chairman, Mr. Knight, announced that the
oath of office was about to be administered to the Gov-
ernor elect, according to the requirements of the Constitu-
tion, and invited the- attendance of the House of Delegates
in the Senate to witness the same.
On motion of Mr. Stewart,
The House then took a recess until after the inauguration.
The members of the House, preceded by the Sergeant-at-
Arms, the Speaker being accompanied by the Committee of
the Senate, then proceeded in a body to the Senate Chamber,
