The Speaker laid before the House the following communi-
cation from the Secretary of the State Board of Education,
together with accompanying report, in response to an order
of the House:

To the Honorable Lewis Cass Smith, Speaker:
Sir:—In compliance with an order of the House of Dele-
gates, dated January 25th, I have the honor to submit the
accompanying statement, showing the indebtedness of the
several County School Boards on the 31st of January, as re
ported to me by the respective Treasurers.

Indebtedness of the several School Boards, as of January
31st, 1876.
Allegany, $19,625.00, of which $9,750 is for Teachers sal-
aries. It is estimated that by September next the debt will
be reduced to $8,979.00.
* Anne Arundel, no report received, owing to the death of
the Treasurer.
