Mr: Robinson, Chairman of the Select Committee to re-
port the appointment of subordinate officers, (the ruiles being
suspended,) submitted the following
REPORT.
Jan'y 11th, 1876.
To the Honorable,
The House of Delegates of Maryland:
The committee to which was referred the appointment of
subordinate officers for this House, and their number, beg
leave to report that, after a careful investigation of the sub-
ject, it suggests the following, which is the lowest number
in their judgment, sufficient to carry on the business of this
House; they name the following persons and places, with the
same compensation given by the last House of Delegates to
its subordinates.
The number of subordinates designated by your committee
being a reduction of over fifty per cent, of the offices of the
last House of Delegates.
Conrad Prinz, Chief Door-keeper; Geo. W. Duvall, of Geo.,
Assistant Door-keeper; R.Johnson Colton,Sergeant-at-Arms;
W. B. Peter, Journal Clerk; Thos. C. Boone, Engrossing
Clerk; E. P. Mercer, Clerk; Jas. V. Whiteford, Clerk;
Wm. A. Twilley, Clerk, Wm. S. Busick, Clerk Committee on
Claims; Thos. E. Noland, Clerk; M. C. Fuller, Clerk; S.
L. Heffinger, Clerk; S. B. D. Jones, Clerk; Hall-keeper, Geo.
W. Murdoch; Lamplighter, James Fowler; Keeper of Commit-
tee Rooms, Joseph Dulanie; Esma Lowe, Folder; Geo. W.
Benson, Folder; Alpha M. Ruby, Folder; E. Jamison,
Folder, Geo. E. Scott, Page; Jas. F. Busey, Page; Jno. R.
Cook, Postmaster, and any additional subordinates who may
be appointed after the organization of this House, shall only
receive compensation from the date of actual appointment.
And your committee do farther recommend the following
gentlemen as Chaplains to this House:
Rev. Wm. S. Southgate; Rev. J. Edwin Amos; Rev. J.
W. Steele and Rev. Ernst Ide; and their compensation shall
be the per diem of a member of this House, divided among
them.
Which was read.
The question recurring upon concurring in the report, it
was unanimously adopted.

Boone, Eugene P. Mercer, William S. Busick, James V.
Whiteford, Wm. A. Twiltey, M. C. Fuller, Conrad Prinz,
