of the two Houses, to wait upon the Honorable John Lee
Carroll, and inform him of his election as Governor of the
State of Maryland, and request him to attend in the chamber
of your Honorable Body on Wednesday next to qualify, and
also notifying this House of the appointment of the Honora-
ble Edward Lloyd, and the Honorable John Carroll Walsh
to serve on such committee on the part of your Honorable
Body; and liave read the same. The House of Delegates re-
spectfally informs your Honorable Body that there was
brought into this House, on the 6th instant,, a petition con-
testing the validity of said election.
This House respectfully calls the attention of your Honor-
able Body to section 4, of Article 2, of the Constitution of
this State, by which all questions in relation to the eligibility
of the Governor, and to the number and legality of votes
therein given, are to be determined by this House.
This House, therefore, respectfully suggests to your Hon-
orable Body, that it is peculiarly the province of this House
to decide upon all questions relating to said election, and
informs your Honorable Body, that it will take such steps in
the premises as it shall consider the power conferred; and the
duties imposed upon it require, and when this House has
decided on said election, it will by message inform your
Honorable Body of the same.
