Mr. Purnell presented the petition of James Ayers, and
others, asking for a passage of a law authorizing the County
Commissioners of Worcester county, to erect a bridge over
Ayers' creek, in said county.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.
Mr. Brown presented the petition of Joshua Beasman and
others, asking for the better protection of birds in Carroll
county.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Agri-
culture .
Mr. Hinks presented the petition of Geo. W. Copeland,
Wellington Hammond, B. J. Snouffer, and 52 other citizens
of Maryland, and land owners therein, praying that Section
67, of Article 30, of the Code of Public General Laws, be
amended so as to punish hunting with dog and gun upon the
lands of others, with fine, and in case of failure to pay fine
and cost, with imprisonment in county jails.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.
The Speaker announced the following Select Committee on
the investigation of Gas Companies in Baltimore city, ap-
pointed under the order of the House, adopted on yesterday.
Messrs. Hoblitzell, Donaldson and Berkemeier.
Mr. McAleese submitted the following order:
Ordered, Whereas, The number of pages employed to do
the work of this House being insufficient; therefore be it
ordered, that James Dorsey, of Baltimore city, page of the
last House, be appointed assistant page.
Which was read.
Mr. Rinehart submitted the following amendment:
Amend by striking out the name of James Dorsey, of Bal-
timore city, and insert that John A. Brown, the former
page, be elected one of the assistant pages, as he has this
Session already received ten days per diem and his mileage.
The question recurring upon the adoption of the amend-
ment,
Mr, Hodges moved that the further consideration thereof
be postponed, and the whole subject referred to the Commit-
tee on Organization.
Pending which,
Mr. McAleese demanded the yeas and nays.
