The Secretary of the Senate and Clerk of the House of Del-
egates proceeded to call the roll of their resptctive Houses,
Whereupon,
Each member proceeded to ballot.
Upon counting the ballots,
Mr. Steiner, on the part of the tellers, submitted the fol-
lowing:
REPORT.
HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 28th, 1876.
At a joint meeting of the Senate and House of Delegates,
held in compliance with an Act of January Session, 1874, pro-
viding for the election of Police Commissioners for the City of
Baltimore. The tellers appointed respectfully report that
Gen. James R. Herbert received....................79 votes.
Col. Wm. Louis Schley received....................22 "
Benjamin F. Butler received......................... 2 "
Blank..................................................... 2 "
Whole number of votes cast.....................105
Whereupon,
It appearing that James R. Herbert had received a ma-
jority of all the votes cast,
The Chairman declared that James R. Herbert was duly
elected Police Commissioner for the City of Baltimore for the
term of six years from the expiration of the term of John
Milroy, of the present board.
The Chairman then announced that as the joint meeting had
finished the business for which they had assembled, it was
dissolved.
Mr. Fenton moved that when the House adjourn it stand
adjourned until Tuesday aext, at 12 o'clock noon.
The question recurring upon concurring in the motion,
Mr. Fenton demanded the yeas and nays.
The demand being sustained,
