On motion of Mr, Briscoe, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Ward be excused from attendance in
this House to-day, having been called away on urgent busi-
ness.
On motion of Mr. Rusk, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Hobljtzell be excused for absence du-
ring this week on account of important business.
On motion of Mr. Purnell, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Onley, a member of this House, have
leave of absence tor a few days, to visit his family.
On motion of &ir. Stewart,
Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation to in-
troduce a bill to prescribe the manner in which the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore may temporarily borrow
money; and to prevent any deficiency in the City Treasury;
to prohibit the expenditure of money without an appropria-
tion therefor, and to make it unlawful for any officer of the
municipal government to pay any money, or to give any or-
der (or similar instruments on the Treasury officers beyond
the appropriations therefor, authorized by law, and to exempt
the Mayor and City Council from any liability for any ex-
penditure that has not been provided for by an ordinance.

troduce a bill to increase the number of the members of the
