The Secretary of the Senate returned
The bill entitled an Act to pay Eli Whitney his claim
against the State of Maryland.
"Endorsed, "Passed by yeas and nays, with proposed
amendments."
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Amend title, add "and to defray the expenses in the con-
tested election cases in the several Legislative Districts of
Baltimore city, and of the investigation by the House of Del-
egates, into the official conduct of the Board of Police Com-
missioners of Baltimore city."
Add to this amount, contested election ca^esof St. Mary's
and Calvert counties, first and third Legislature Districts of
Baltimore city, "and the Comptroller nhall also draw his
warrant upon the Treasurer, upon the recommendation of the
Chairman of the Committee on Elections of the Senate, for
such sums as he may recommend, to pay t-ie expenses grow-
ing out of the contested cases from St. Mary's and Calvert
counties, and the first and third Legislative Districts of Bal-
timore city; and also his warrant upon the Treasurer for such
sum not exceeding ten thousand dollars, as may be audited
and recommended by the Chairman of the Committee on
Election, of the House of Delegates, for the expenses growing
out of the election contests in the first, second and third Legis-
lative Districts of Baltimore city, and the investigation by
said Committee into the official conduct of the Police Com-
missioners of Baltimore city, provided the same be paid out
of the appropriation for legislative expenses.
