The Speaker laid before the House the following report
from Hon. Barnes Compton :
TREASURER'S OFFICE,
March 31st, 1876.
Honorable L. C, Smith,
Speaker of the House of Delegates :
SIR:—In response to an order of the House of Delegates,
passed on the 29th inst. as follows: "Ordered, That the
Treasurer report to this House where and to what account
the balance in the Treasury on the 1st of February and
March, 1876, was deposited." I beg leave respectfully to
report that on the 1st of February, 1876, there was to the
credit of all accounts in this office, the sum of $422,467.09,
every dollar of which sum was then deposited as required by
law, in the banks which had bonded and been approved by
the Governor as depositaries of the State's moneys, except
the sum of $25,718.45, in the form of uncollected checks in
the safe of this office, which checks were deposited in the said
banks for collection, within forty-eight hours thereafter.
This gross sum of $422,467.09 was made up of the follow-
ing amounts and deposited as is hereby shown:
In the Farmers' and Merchants' National Bank of Balti-
more—
$169,839.88, balance of proceeds of the House of Correction,
State loan, to the credit of the Board of Public
Works and Attorney General, specially appro-
priated as provided by Section 4, chapter 233,
Acts of 1874.
24,519.60, balance of proceeds of the State Normal School
loan, to the credit of the Board of Public Works,
especially appropriated as provided by Section
1, chapter 469, Acts of 1874.
77,434.82, to the credit of the State of Maryland, available
for general demands upou the Treasury.
90,953.19 in the Farmers' National Bank of Annapolis,
to the credit of the State, available for general
demands upon the Treasury.
