Was read a second time and ordered to engrossed for a
third reading.
The bill entitled an Act to repeal Section 17 of Article-
71, of the Code of Public General Laws, title "Oysters,"
as amended and re-enacted by chapter 364, of the Acts
passed at January Session, 1870, and chapter 167, of the
Acts passed at the January Session, 1872, and also chapter
181, of the Acts passed at January Session, 1874, and to
re-enact the said Section with amendments,
Was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.
Mr. Gill, Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means,
submitted the following
REPORT:
To the Honorable the
Speaker of the House of Delegates:
Your Committee on Ways and Means would respectfully
report, that ia obedience to an order of the House, they
have carefully investigated the accounts of the Annapolis
Gas Light Company, against the State for the years 1872,
1873, 1874 and 1875, and find that the State has been
charged for the year 1872, at the rate of $4.25 per 1,000 ft.
net, and the total amount paid by the State to said Gas Com.,
was $3,003.91; tor 1873, the Company allowed the State
15 per cent, discount for prompt payment on bills for the
months of March, April and May, making in all a discount
of $69.99 during the year, and the total amount paid to the
Company by the State, was $1,699.80 ; for 1874, the State
was allowed a discount of 15 per cent, for nine months of
that year, making a total discount of $288.70, and the
amount paid by the State for said year, was $3,368.95 , and
for the year 1875, the State was allowed 15 per cent, dis-
count for the full year, (12 months,) and the total dis-
count for that year, was $428.14, and the total amount
paid by the State, was $2,505.64. Tour Committee
would also state that they have examined witnesses
under oath, whose testimony is hereto annexed, as part of
this report, and have discovered that the Gas Company or
its agents, have made an error against the State in the dis-
count allowed for the months of January, February and
March, 1874, of $100.00, and also an error of $10.00 in the
discount for December, 1874, which amount, $100, has been
Mid to the Comptroller of the Treasury by Mr. Taylor, the
superintendent of the Company.
We also transmit with this report a letter from Mr. Ran-
dall, President of the Gas Company, and copy of the reso-
lutions adopted by the Directors of said Company.
