Which was read and referred to the Allegany and Gar-
rett delegations.
Mr. Fenton submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Joint Committee, under Section 24,
Article 3, of the Constitution, be, and they are hereby, required
to inquire fully as to whether any person who has been
elected to the United States Senate from this State since the
year 1861, secured such election by the use of money.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Jones submitted the following order :
Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal, that the ab-
sence of Mr. Canby is caused by sickness.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Smith, of Baltimore county, submitted the following
order:
Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal that the ab-
sence of Mr. Curtis, of Baltimore county, is caused by sick-
ness.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Lamotte submitted the following order :
Ordered, That when this House adjourn to-day, it stand
adjourned until Monday, 24th inst., at 12 o'clock, M., and
that the regular meeting of this House thereafter bo 11.30
o'clock, A. M., unless otherwise ordered.

Mr. Koons submitted the following order:
WHEEEAS, By the Bill of Rights, every citizen of this
State is required to contribute to the support of the Govern-
ment, according to this actual possessions in real and per-
sonal estate, and any exemption of property is clearly in
violation of this juat Constitutional provision.
And whereas, There is believed to be a large amount of
property in this State held by individuals and corporations
not now taxable.
Therefore, ordered, That the Committee on Ways and
Means be, and they are hereby, instructed to so amend the
Revenue Laws of this State, as to provide for a fair and
equal distribution of the burdens incident to the support of
the Government, by introducing a bill, repealing all laws
providing for the exemption of any property whatsoever
from taxation.
