So the proposed amendment was rejected.
Mr. Baldwin submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Strike out all after the words "as may be," in line 3, Sec-
tion 1, chapter 4, to the word "the," in line 8, and insert
the following, "and shall select some teacher of their county
to act as Examiner, who shall receive therefor a compensation
of not less than $400 nor more than $600 per year."
Which was rejected.
Mr. Whitelock submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Chapter 9,.line 24, strikeout all after "designation," and
msert instead "the County Commissioners are hereby em-
powered and directed to pay the one-fourth so levied and un-
collected out of any money in the County Treasury, and so
