and is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments to
read as follows:

(27) Property, real or personal, owned by the Veterans of
Foreign Wars of the United States, incorporated by special
Act of Congress, The American Legion, incorporated by Act of
Congress, or the Disabled American Veterans of the World
War, incorporated in 1921 under the laws of Ohio, or any de-
partment, State or local unit, chapter, branch or post, whether
incorporated or unincorporated, of any of said organizations,
or the Society of the Cincinnati of Maryland; provided such
property is used exclusively for houses, clubs, asylums, hospi-
tals and burial grounds, or the maintenance thereof, of any of
said organizations.

CHAPTER 424.

"AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 768
of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Matrons
at the Station Houses", said amendment to raise the salary
of the Police Matrons and providing that the widows of
former policemen shall be given preference in all future ap-
pointments as Matrons.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 768 of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-
title "Matrons at the Station Houses", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows:

768. Each of said matrons, and substitute matrons when
employed, shall receive a salary of Thirty-Five Dollars per
week for the first year and Thirty-Seven Dollars and Fifty
Cents per week for the second year, and thereafter Forty Dol-
lars per week to be paid by the Mayor and City Council of Bal-
timore and it shall be included in the annual estimate of ex-
penses by the said Police Commissioner certified by the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore. Hereafter, in appointing
Matrons, preference shall be given to the widows of former
members of the Police Department.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect January 1, 1938.
