authorizing and empowering the Board of County Com-
missioners of Montgomery County to pay to the Chief of the
Montgomery County Police, in addition to the salary and ex-
penses now paid, the sum of Five Hundred Dollars
($500. 00) annually as salary, and to pay all other members
of the Montgomery County Police in addition to the salary
and expenses now allowed by law the sum of Three Hun-
dred Dollars ($300. 00), annually as salary and providing
that if the said Board of County Commissioners shall pay to
either the Chief of the Montgomery County Police or any
member of said Force, the additional salary named, it shall
pay the additional salary to all the remaining members of
said Montgomery County Police.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Montgomery County", sub-title "Police", said
section to be known as 693A and to follow immediately after
Section 693, and to read as follows:
693A. The Board of County Commissioners is hereby au-
thorized and empowered, in its discretion, to pay to the Chief
of the Montgomery County Police, in addition to the salary and
expenses named in Section 692, the sum of Five Hundred
Dollars ($500. 00), annually as salary, the same, if paid, to be
in equal monthly installments. The said Board of County
Commissioners is further authorized and empowered, in its
discretion, to pay to all other members of the Montgomery
County Police, including officers and patrolmen of every rank
and the officer in charge of the Department of Criminal Identi-
fication, in addition to the salary and expenses now allowed
by law, the sum of Three Hundred Dollars ($300. 00), annually
as salary, the same, if paid, to be in equal monthly install-
ments; provided, however, that if the said Board of County
Commissioners, shall pay to either the Chief of the Montgom-
ery County Police or any member of said force, the additional
salary above mentioned, it shall also pay the additional salary
above provided to all the remaining members of said Montgom-
ery County Police.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all
the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.
