CHAPTER 330.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 63
of Article 89 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924
Edition), title "Statistics and Information", sub-title "Bu-
reau of Mines", providing for the temporary appointment of
Mine Foremen and Assistant Mine Foremen.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 63 of Article 89 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1924 Edition), title "Statistics and Information",
sub-title "Bureau of Mines", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

63. Whenever the mine workings become so extensive that
the mine foreman is unable personally to discharge his duties,
the operator shall employ a sufficient number of competent
persons as assistants, who shall have like qualifications with
the mine foreman; provided, that whenever any exigency arises
whereby it is impossible for any operator to secure the imme-
diate services of a certified man, he may employ any trust-
worthy and experienced man as mine foreman or assistant
mine foreman for a period not exceeding thirty days, and in
the event that no person possessing a certificate of competency,
satisfactory to such operator, can be found to fill the position,
then the Chief Mine Engineer may grant a temporary cer-
tificate to some person satisfactory to such operator whom
such Chief Mine Engineer may deem qualified, who may fill
the position until thirty days from and after the next meeting
of the Examining Board held for the purpose of granting
certificates of competency. In the event the said appointee
shall fail to take such examination or fail to pass the same,
he shall not thereafter be permitted to fill said position until
such time as he shall have passed such examination.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1937.

CHAPTER 331.

AN ACT to add twelve new sections to Article 40 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title "General
Assembly", to be known under sub-title "Intergovernmental
Cooperation", said new sections to be known as Sections 14
