hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
(2A) Weights of Vehicles and Loads, (a) No commercial
motor vehicle, equipped with solid rubber tires, shall have a
gross weight, including vehicle and load, of more than forty-
two thousand (42, 000) pounds, nor shall any commercial
motor vehicle equipped with pneumatic tires have a gross
weight, including vehicle and load, of more than twenty-six
thousand (26, 000) pounds, for four wheeled vehicle, or a gross
weight of more than thirty-six thousand (36, 000) pounds for
a six wheeled vehicle.
(b) No truck or tractor with semi-trailer shall have a com-
bined gross weight of loads and vehicles of more than forty-
two thousand (42, 000) pounds.
(c) No commercial motor vehicle shall have a load in excess
of seven hundred (700) pounds per inch in width of tire (meas-
ured between the flanges) for solid tires and at greater width
of casing for pneumatic tires.
(d) No commercial motor vehicle shall have an axle load
of more than eighteen thousand (18, 000) pounds, except that
four (4) wheel vehicles and semi-trailers equipped with pneu-
matic tires may have an axle load of not more than twenty
thousand (20, 000) pounds. Provided that it shall be lawful
to operate a commercial motor vehicle equipped with three (3)
axles, having each of the rear axles equipped with two hubs,
with a power brake on each rear hub, having a gross weight
including vehicle and load, of not more than forty-two thou-
sand (42, 000) pounds.
(e) Trailers equipped with metal tires bearing a gross load
in excess of six thousand (6, 000) pounds shall not be allowed
on State highways.
(f) Provided nothing hereinabove contained shall make
unlawful the registration or operation upon the highways of
this State of any commercial motor vehicle or passenger bus,
now registered in this State, the operation of which was per-
missible under the provisions of Section 194 of Article 56 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1935 Supplement) or
Chapter 142 of the Acts of the General Assembly of the first
Special Session of 1936.
(g) The service brakes upon any commercial motor vehicle
or combination of vehicles shall be adequate to stop such
vehicle or vehicles when traveling twenty (20) miles per hour
within a distance of thirty (30) feet when upon dry asphalt
or concrete pavement surface free from loose material where
the grade does not exceed one (1%) per cent.
(h) Under the above conditions the hand brake shall be ade-
quate to stop such vehicle or vehicles within a distance of
