SEC. 2. And 6e it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of
the General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage.

Approved March 30, 1937.

CHAPTER 204.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 499
of Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Anne Arundel County, " sub-title
"Treasurer, " as said Section was amended by Chapter 306
of the Acts of 1933, relating to the number and compensation
of the Clerks in the Office of the County Treasurer.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 499 of Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Anne Arundel
County, " sub-title "Treasurer, " as said section was amended
by Chapter 306 of the Acts of 1933, be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows:

499. The said treasurer shall be entitled to receive as full
compensation for his services as such treasurer and as collector
of all county, State and school taxes, as well as all other
taxes, an annual salary of Five Thousand Dollars ($5, 000. )
for and during his term of office and until his successor shall
have been duly elected and qualified, and he shall employ
such clerks or assistants of Ms own selection for conducting
the work of his office as the said work may require, the
salary of not more than six of said clerks to be paid by the
County Commissioners of said County in such reasonable
amounts, not exceeding in the aggregate Nine Thousand Six
Hundred Dollars ($9, 600), as said County Commissioners
may determine; provided, however, that two of said clerks
shall each be paid Eighteen Hundred Dollars ($1, 800) per
year and each of the other four clerks shall be paid Fifteen
Hundred Dollars ($1, 500) per year; it being the intent and
purpose of this Section that the treasurer shall always be
a full time officer and be in personal attendance regularly
upon the duties of his office; and no extra compensation of
any kind whatsoever shall be allowed said treasurer or be
