HARRY W. NICE, GOVERNOR. 1381
THURMONT.
Chapter 260, Senate Bill 217, extends the taxable limits of
the town of Thurmont. Almost all the property owners in the
region affected have protested against the bill on the ground
that it imposes a burden upon them without any correspond-
ing benefits. I have, therefore, vetoed this bill.
UNITED STATES.
Chapter 351, Senate Bill 270, limits the consent of the State
to the acquisition by the United States of land in Prince
George's County to an amount not exceeding 40 acres from any
one tract or for any one purpose. This legislation would pre-
vent 4ie Government of the United States from acquiring more
than 40 acres of land for establishing landing fields or other
desirable and necessary projects. I have, therefore, vetoed
the bill.
VETERINARIANS.
Chapter 477, House Bill 628, relates to the qualifications of
veterinarians in St. Mary's County. This bill attempts to
establish an exemption as to the general state-wide law
governing veterinarians, which I believe to be unsound. I have,
therefore, vetoed it.
WASHINGTON COUNTY.
Chapter 536, House Bill 501, relates to the duties, powers
and remuneration of the Sheriff and certain Deputy Sheriffs
of Washington County. The present law, which has been in
operation for many years, seems to have been satisfactory and
I see no reason for making a change at this time. Therefore,
I have vetoed this bill.
