JOINT RESOLUTIONS

NO. 1.

Joint Resolution requesting the Postmaster General of the
United States to issue a stamp commemorative of March
17th, generally known as St. Patrick's Day.

WHEREAS, for many years the feast day of St. Patrick has
been observed on March 17th each year; and

WHEREAS, St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, has been
celebrated in history and literature; and

WHEREAS, from the early days of this country, the Irish
people have played an important part in the development of
the country and have always been loyal to the institutions
of the country; and

WHEREAS, it would seem fitting that recognition should, in
some way, be given to the day generally celebrated by the
Irish people in this country, namely, March 17th; therefore

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Postmaster General of the United States be and he is hereby
requested to issue a commemorative stamp in recognition of
St. Patrick's Day; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby
directed to send, under the Great Seal of the State of Mary-
land, a copy of this resolution to the President of the United
States and to the Postmaster General of the United States.
