SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public health and
safety and having been passed by a yea and nay vote, sup-
ported by three-fifths of all of the members elected to each
of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 54.
(Senate Bill 180)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 41 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition and 1943 Supple-
ment), title "Governor—Executive and Administrative
Departments", said new section to be known as Section
61B, to follow immediately after Section 61A of said
Article, and to be under the new sub-title "Maryland
State Bird", designating the Baltimore Oriole as the
official bird of the State of Maryland.
WHEREAS, the State of Maryland at the present time has
no official State Bird; and
WHEREAS, the Baltimore Oriole is a bird of great beauty,
with a sentimental attachment to the history and tradi-
tions of Maryland, its name being derived from the fact
that its colors, black and orange, were the colors appearing
on the coat of arms of Lord Baltimore; now therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 41
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition and
1943 Supplement), title "Governor—Executive and Ad-
ministrative Departments", said new section to be known
as Section 61B, to follow immediately after Section 61A
of said Article, and to be under the new sub-title "Mary-
land State Bird", and to read as follows:
61B. The Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula) is hereby
designated to be the Official Bird of the State of Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1947.
