SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety,
and having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported
by three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the
two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 50.
(Senate Bill 158)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 29 of Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1943 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles," sub-
title "Administration—Registration—Titling," authoriz-
ing extension period of registration cards and plates
under certain conditions.

SECTION 1. Belt enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 29 of Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles," sub-
title "Administration—Registration—Titling," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

29. (Expiration of Registration.) (a) Every vehicle
registration under this Article and every registration card
and registration plate issued hereunder shall expire at
midnight on the 31st day of March of the registration year
for which issued; provided, however, that with respect to
those registration cards and plates expiring March 31,1947,
the Department may, with the approval of the Governor,
extend the period during which registration cards and
registration plates may be used.

(b) Certificates of title need not be renewed annually
but shall remain valid until canceled by the Department
for cause or upon a transfer of any interest shown therein.
