CHAPTER 338.
(House Bill 198)

AN ACT to add a new section to the Code of the Public Local
Laws of Prince George's County (1943 Flack's Edition),
sub-title "Hyattsville", providing that the Mayor and City
Council of Hyattsville shall have power to establish and
maintain a Merit System for municipal employees and des-
ignating civil service commissioner.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added
to the Code of the Public Local Laws of Prince George's
County (1943 Flack's Edition), sub-title "Hyattsville", said
new section to follow immediately after Section 810, be
numbered 810A and to read as follows

810A. The Mayor and City Council of Hyattsville shall
have power and authority to establish a Merit System in con-
nection with the appointment or employment of any or all
municipal employees and the duly elected President of the
Council provided for in Section 746 of the Code of the Public
Local Laws of Prince George's County (1943 Flack's Edition),
shall serve as Civil Service Commissioner for said munici-
pality. The Commissioner shall make such rules and regula-
tions as are necessary to carry out the provisions of this
section, preparing examinations and qualifications for em-
ployment or appointment and what may constitute cause for
removal, but no removal shall be allowed because of the
religious or political opinions or affiliations of any employee.
Such rules and regulations when approved by the Mayor and
City Council shall have the force and effect of law.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.
