this Charter, for the election of the Mayor and Council of
Federalsburg, and after notice printed in some newspaper of
general circulation, printed and published in Caroline County,
or posted in three conspicuous places in the town of Federals
burg for at least 10 days before the election, and all inhabit-
ants of the said town qualified to vote for Delegates to the
General Assembly of Maryland, who have been residents of
said town, or area now in the said town, for at least one
year, shall be qualified to vote for the said Mayor and
Council at any town election. At this election, the two
candidates for councilmen receiving the highest number
of votes shall be elected for a four-year term as council-
men. The two candidates receiving the next highest num-
ber of votes shall be elected for a two-year term as council-
men. The candidate for Mayor at this election receiving the
highest number of votes shall be elected Mayor of Federals-
burg for a two-year term. The term of the Mayor of Fed-
eralsburg shall hereafter be for two years. On and after the
fourth Monday in April, 1949, and on the same date every
two years thereafter, an election shall be held for Mayor for a
two-year term and for two councilmen for a four-year term;
and all persons deciding to become a candidate for Mayor
or Councilmen shall at least fifteen days prior to any election
file with the Clerk of Federalsburg a written statement of
such candidacy, accompanied by a petition signed by at least
ten duly qualified voters nominating such candidate, which
written statement of candidacy and the voters nominating
petition shall be substantially in the following form:

Office.
State of Maryland, Caroline County, to wit:

I,................................... hereby certify that

I am now and have been for more than three years a resident
of the town of Federalsburg, Caroline County, Maryland, and
that I am a qualified voter therein; that I am a candidate for
the office of........................... to be voted upon

at the town election to be held on the fourth Monday of April,
19...., and I hereby request my name be printed upon the

official ballot at said election as a candidate for said office.
