Stenographer," and Section 49 of Article 24 of said Code,
title "Worcester County," sub-title "Circuit Court," sub-
heading "Court Stenographer," as said sections were
amended by Chapter 871 of the Acts of 1941, increasing
the salary of the Court Stenographer of the First Ju-
dicial Circuit, and providing for the employment of other
Court Stenographers, the county in which such additional
stenographic assistance is required to pay the cost
thereof.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 136 of Article 10 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Dorchester Coun-
ty," sub-title "Circuit Court," subheading "Court Stenog-
rapher," being also codified as Section 29 of Article 20 of
said Code, title "Somerset County," sub-title "Circuit
Court," sub-heading "Court Stenographer," Section 20
of Article 23 of said Code, title "Wicomico County," sub-
title "Circuit Court," sub-heading "Court Stenographer,"
and Section 49 of Article 24 of the said Code, title "Wor-
cester County," sub-title "Circuit Court," sub-heading
"Court Stenographer," as said sections were amended by
Chapter 871 of the Acts of 1941, be and they are hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

136. (a) The salary of said stenographer shall be
three thousand dollars ($3,000) per year, the said salary
to be paid as follows: The County Commissioners of Dor-
chester County, Wicomico County, Somerset County and
Worcester County shall each pay the sum of seven hundred
and fifty dollars thereof, said payments to be made in quar-
terly installments during the service, on the presentation
of the certificate of the clerk of either county or of either of
said judges of said court, to the County Commissioners
certifying to the services of said court stenographer. And
the said County Commissioners of the several counties are
hereby directed and empowered to provide for the payment
of their several portions of the salary of the said stenog-
rapher at once on presentation of said certificates.

(b) The said judges are hereby authorized and empow-
ered to employ such additional competent stenographic
assistance as may, in their sound discretion, be deemed
necessary, the County Commissioners of the county for the
benefit of which such additional employment is made to
pay the cost thereof at once upon the presentation of the
certificate of the Clerk of such county or of either of said
