sions", relating to the compensation of the Chiefs and
Assistant Chiefs of the respective bureaus of the State
Health Department.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 41 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Health", sub-title "Mis-
cellaneous Provisions", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
41. The State Board of Health is authorized and empow-
ered to appoint a chief and an assistant chief for each of the
bureaus hereinbefore provided, and to appoint such inspectors,
draughtsmen and employees as may be necessary in the exe-
cution of Sections 33 to 42. Such chiefs and assistant chiefs
shall be men of good technical education and ability, com-
petent to properly conduct their respective bureaus; they shall
be appointed by the Director of the State Board of Health
by and with the consent of the said board, and shall receive
such compensation as shall be provided in the State Budget.
Such chiefs and assistant chiefs may be removed from office
upon the recommendation of the Director and a majority vote
of the board.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
12 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Health", sub-title "State Board "of Health",
relating to the compensation of the State Chemist.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 12 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Health", sub-title "State
Board of Health", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
12. The State Board of Health shall appoint a suitable
person, who shall have been actually engaged in this State
