CHAPTER 181.
(Senate Bill 254)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tions 6 and 8 of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Insurance", sub-
title "Insurance Department", relating to the salaries
of the Chief Examiner and Auditor and Examiner of the
State Insurance Department.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 6 and 8 of Article 48A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Insurance",
sub-title "Insurance Department", be and the same are
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Section 6. Chief Examiner. There shall be a chief
examiner of the insurance department, who shall be ap-
pointed by the Commissioner and whose duty it shall be
to examine, under the direction of the Commissioner, the
condition and affairs of every insurance company of this
State and such, other companies doing business in this
State as the Commissioner may direct, in order that the
Commissioner may know whether or not such companies
are solvent and in compliance with the laws of this State.
Said chief examiner shall receive an annual compensation
as fixed and provided by the budget.

Section 8. Auditor and Examiner. The Commissioner
shall also appoint an auditor and examiner for the depart-
ment, whose duties it shall be to examine and audit the
annual statements of all insurance companies authorized
to do business in this State, the books, accounts and affairs
of the insurance department, and do such other auditing
as the Commissioner may direct. He shall also, when so
directed by the Commissioner, assist in the examination
of the companies, and shall receive an annual compensation
as fixed and provided by the budget.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public health and
safety, and having been passed by a yea and nay vote,
supported by three-fifths of all the members elected to
each of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.
