Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Caroline County", sub-title "Sheriff", Section 552 hav-
ing been amended by Chapter 140 of the Acts of 1943
and Section 553 having been amended by Chapter 80
of the Acts of 1933, relating to the compensation, ex-
penses and duties of the Sheriff of Caroline County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 552, 553, 554 and 555 of Article 6 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Caroline County", sub-title "Sheriff", Section 552
having been amended by Chapter 140 of the Acts of 1943
and Section 553 having been amended by Chapter 80 of
the Acts of 1933, be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
552. The Sheriff of Caroline County shall be allowed
a sum not exceeding sixty cents a day for boarding and
keeping each prisoner confined in the County jail,
and he shall keep a correct and full list of all prisoners
committed to his custody, showing the length of time for
which each one is committed and by what authority.
553. The Sheriff of Caroline County shall be entitled
to an annual salary of not less than twenty-two hundred
($2200.00) dollars, payable by the County Commissioners
in equal monthly installments, which salary shall be in lieu
of any compensation heretofore allowed him for attending
sessions of the Circuit Court for Caroline County and of
all fees and charges of every nature in all criminal, juve-
nile and civil cases to which he has heretofore been entitled.
The County Commissioners of Caroline County shall have
the authority, in their discretion, to increase the compen-
sation of the Sheriff.
The Sheriff of Caroline County shall be entitled to the
sum of five cents per mile for the use of his automobile
in connection with his official duties. The Sheriff shall
be entitled to no other compensation or reimbursement
except as authorized in Sections 552 and 553, unless auth-
orized by the Circuit Court for Caroline County and the
County Commissioners of Caroline County.
554. The Sheriff of Caroline may appoint such
deputies as may be necessary for the enforcement of
the duties of his office, with the prior approval of the
County Commissioners of Caroline County as to number
and compensation. He shall incur no other expense which
shall be payable by said County Commissioners.
