ty, Maryland.
This bill authorizes the installation of traffic signals by the
State Roads Commission at the intersection of Routes 180
and 170 in Anne Arundel County, at certain intersections in
Ocean City, Worcester County, at Cross Road 1 and 2 and
Boulevard Grille Cross Road in Berlin, at the main intersec-
tion in the center of Ringgold, Washington County, and at
the intersection of 11th Avenue and Ritchie Highway in
Brooklyn.
The State Roads Commission without this bill has ample
authority for the installation of traffic signals where found
to be desirable. The Commission will make traffic studies of
the crossings mentioned, and if found desirable, will install
such signals.
Although this bill is not mandatory, it will be vetoed for
the same reasons stated in connection with House Bill No.
569.
HOUSE BILL 736
AN ACT to authorize the State Roads Commission to con-
struct a bridge across the Wicomico River at Whitehaven,
Wicomico County.
This bill, in its original form, authorized and directed the
State Roads Commission to construct a bridge of a specific
type and all necessary approaches thereto, across the Wi-
comico River between Somerset and Wicomico Counties, to
replace the present ferry system. The words "and directed"
were stricken out during the passage of the bill through the
Legislature, so that, in its present form, it is directory only.
The State Roads Commission, of course, has, without this
bill, ample authority to construct any bridge deemed in the
public interest, and this bill is therefore unnecessary and will
be vetoed.
SENATE BILL 169
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
9 (f) of Article 89B of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1943 Supplement), title "State Roads", relating to the
time when County Commissioners of any County desirous
of obtaining the return of County road maintenance should
give notice to the State Roads Commission.
This bill was originally drawn to enable the Counties to
obtain a return of county roads upon a request filed prior to
