HOUSE BILL 569

AN ACT authorizing the State Roads Commission of Mary-
land to construct a macadam or any other type of hard
surface road from the Town of Powellville, Wicomico Coun-
ty, Maryland, to the Pocomoke River Bridge at the Wor-
cester County Line.

This bill, in its original form, authorized and directed the
State Roads Commission to construct a macadam or other
type of hard surface road from Powellville, Wicomico Coun-
ty, to the Pocomoke River Bridge. The words "and directed"
were stricken out during the passage of the bill through the
General Assembly, so that in its present form it is directory
only. The State Roads Commission has ample authority, with-
out this bill, to construct this road, and I have called to their
attention the desire for its construction.

Because the bill is unnecessary, it will be vetoed.

HOUSE BILL 573

AN ACT authorizing and directing the State Roads Commis-
sion to construct a macadam road or any other type of hard
surface road over the two and two-tenths (2.2) mile dis-
tance from the West Libertytown State Stone Road to the
Pocomoke River Bridge at the Wicomico County Line.

This bill requires the State Roads Commission to construct
a macadam or any other type of hard surface road from West
Libertytown State Stone Road to the Pocomoke River Bridge
at the Wicomico County Line. The bill would set a precedent
for the passage of mandatory acts of a similar nature, and
would destroy overall planning for the construction and re-
habilitation of the State Highway System. It conflicts with
the policy and purpose of Senate Bill No. 359, and will there-
fore be vetoed, although I have called to State Roads Commis-
sion attention the desire that the road be built.

AN ACT authorizing the State Roads Commission of Mary-
land to install traffic signals at the intersection of Routes
Nos. 170 and 180 in Anne Arundel County, at the main in-
tersection in the center of Ringgold, Maryland, in the town
of Ocean City, Maryland, at Cross Road No. 1, Cross Road
No. 2 and the Boulevard Grille Cross Road, all in or near
Berlin, Maryland, and at the intersection of 11th Avenue
