proposed Chesapeake Bay Bridge program shall be car-
ried into effect.

WHEREAS, it was made a plank of the Democratic plat-
form for the recent gubernatorial campaign that a bridge
be constructed across the Chesapeake Bay; and

WHEREAS, in the event that such an undertaking is
carried into effect it will render the ferry system pres-
ently operating between Sandy Point and Matapeake across
the Chesapeake Bay a needless duplication of transporta-
tion facilities; and

WHEREAS, it is the sense of the General Assembly that
it will prove to be most advantageous and desirable to
travel in Southern Maryland that a ferry system therein
be established across the Chesapeake Bay, such system to
have its eastern terminal located at some point south of
the Choptank River and its western terminal located at
some point south of the Patuxent River; and

WHEREAS, it will expedite travel from the Eastern Shore
into the nation's Capitol if the said ferry system is estab-
lished; and

WHEREAS, if the projected Chesapeake Bay Bridge is
ultimately constructed, it will not be desirable to dissolve
completely the ferry system presently in operation in light
of the possible utility involved in transferring the opera-
tion of such system to another desirable location; now
therefore be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
in the event that the proposed Chesapeake Bay Bridge
program is ultimately carried into effect, the Governor be
and he is hereby requested to appoint a non-partisan com-
mission composed of six members, of which number three
shall be from the territory embraced by the Eastern Shore
and an equal number shall be from the territory embraced
by the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, to inquire
into and study the feasibility and desirability of trans-
ferring the ferry system presently operating between
'Sandy Point and Matapeake across the Chesapeake Bay to
a location to the south of the present operating termini,
the system as transferred to have its eastern terminal
located at some point south of the Choptank River and its
western terminal located at some point south of the Patux-
ent River; and be it further

Resolved, That such commission, if duly appointed by
the Governor, is hereby requested in the pursuit of its
