dollars ($1,200), said sum to be paid in monthly installments
of one hundred dollars ($100), payable on the first day of
each calendar month.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths
of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage.

CHAPTER 921.
(House Bill 824)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 56 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Licenses", to
be under a new sub-title "Pinball Machines", said new sec-
tion to be known as Section 23A and to follow immediately
after Section 23 of said Article, providing for the licensing
of pinbail machines.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1943 Supplement),
title "Licenses", to be under a new sub-title "Pinball Ma-
chines", said new section to be known as Section 23A, to
follow immediately after Section 23 of said Article, and to
read as follows:

PINBALL MACHINES

23A. (1) No free play pin ball machines, as hereinafter
defined, or any free play console machine, as hereinafter de-
fined, which shall be operated or played by the insertion of a
coin or token, shall be kept, maintained or operated for the
purpose of public entertainment or gain within the State of
Maryland, unless a license has been previously obtained for
each such machine from the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the
county in which said machine is to be operated or maintained.
Any person, partnership, firm or corporation applying for such
license, shall pay therefor the sum of ten ($ 10.00) dollars per
annum for each free play pin ball machine, as hereinafter de-
fined, and the sum of twenty-five ($25.00) dollars per annum
