477 (F). The District Heights Commission may appoint by
resolution one or more town police, who, before entering
upon his duties, shall make oath before the Secretary-Com-
missioner or Town Clerk, that he will faithfully and im-
partially perform the duties required of him as police of said
town, according to the best of his skill and judgment; and who
shall serve during the pleasure of said Commissioners, and who
shall have power within said town to make arrests for the
violations of the Public General Laws and Public Local Laws
of Maryland, as well as the ordinances of said town and to
maintain custody of persons outside of the town while in
custody in taking them to a justice or to jail. The police of
the town shall preserve the peace, prevent disorderly or irreg-
ular meetings and shall enforce and cause to be enforced all
ordinances and police regulations of the town and all State
and county laws within the corporate limits of the town, and
shall make and cause to be made all lawful arrests for and
prosecute any and all violations of any law of the State of
Maryland, or of Prince George's County, committed within
the corporate limits of the town, and shall swear out all neces-
sary warrants therefor. Said police officers shall serve all such
notices and process as required by this Charter or by any
Order passed by virtue thereof as directed, and shall collect
the same fees therefor as are allowed for like services in the
State or in said County of Prince George's, and shall receive
such salary or compensation as the said Commission shall fix.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall not
become effective until it shall have been submitted to the
qualified voters of the Town of District Heights, in Prince
George's County, at the next regular municipal election, or at
a special election to be held on such date as shall be deter-
mined by the Town Commissioners of said town. There shall
be printed on the ballots to be used at said election, the title
of this Act and underneath said title on separate lines, a square
or box to the right of and opposite the words "For Proposed
Town Charter Revisions", and a corresponding square or box
to the right of and opposite the words "Against Proposed
Town Charter Revisions", so that the voters shall be able to
designate by a cross mark in the proper square or box his or
her decision for or against said proposed Town Charter Re-
visions. If a, majority of the votes cast on said question shall
be "For Proposed Town Charter Revisions", then this Act
shall become immediately effective. If a majority of the votes
cast thereon shall be "Against Proposed Town Charter Re-
visions", then this Act shall be null and void and of no effect
whatsoever.
