2008 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 827

authorize and empower the County Commissioners of
Prince George's County to fix the salary of said County
Engineer.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 394, sub-title ''County Engineer", of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County, Mary-
land (Flack's Edition, 1943), as amended by Chapter 933 of
the Laws of Maryland, 1945, be, and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

COUNTY ENGINEER

394. The Board of County Commissioners of Prince
George's County is authorized and empowered to appoint
as County Engineer of Prince George's County a person duly
qualified as a "Registered Professional Engineer", as pro-
vided in Article 75 1/2 of the Code of Public General Laws of
Maryland; to fix his compensation; to determine the amount
of bond which he shall give; and to discharge said County
Engineer whenever, in the judgment of said Board, it is
necessary in the public interest; and, upon removal or other
vacancy, to appoint a successor.

The County Engineer shall perform such engineering duties
and do and conduct such engineering work, in regard to the
property and affairs of the County, as the board of County
Commissioners may direct and require. The preparation
of plans and specifications and the supervision of all con-
struction and maintenance work undertaken by the County
shall be under the general direction of the County Engineer.
No road construction or maintenance to be paid partly or
wholly by the County on any road or other public right-of-
way or on any right-of-way dedicated to public use shall
be undertaken, unless the plans therefor have been approved
by the County Engineer.

The Board of County Commissioners is further authorized
and empowered to employ, fix the compensation of, arrange
the terms and conditions of employment of, and discharge
such engineering staff and other personnel as may be deemed
necessary in the office of the County Engineer.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.
