WM. PRESTON LANE, JR., GOVERNOR. 1957

On and after January 1, 1946, the pension allowance
to the widow or for the benefit of minor children shall be
one-quarter (1/4) of the base salary of the grade or position
of the deceased member in force at the time of his
death, said benefits to be paid to the widow (or children
as above provided), conditioned, however, that the pro-
visions of Sections 943A and 943B shall not apply to a
widow unless she shall have been married to a deceased mem-
ber for at least five years preceding his death, and shall not
apply to widows of members whose marriage occurred subse-
quent to retirement.

Nothing in Sections 943A and 943B shall be construed to be
in conflict with the provisions of Section 943 of this Article.

All revenue derived in accordance with the terms of Section
943A shall be kept in a separate and distinct fund to be known
as the Special Fund for Widows, and shall be disbursed only
for the purposes provided in Sections 943A and 943B.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That should any section
or part of a section of this Article be held to be invalid for
any reason, such holding shall not be construed as affecting
the validity of any remaining section or part of a section of
this Article, it being the legislative intent that the remainder
of this Article shall stand, notwithstanding the invalidity of
such section or part of a section.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 1
of Article 68 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1943
Supplement), title "Notaries Public", relating to the ap-
pointment of Notaries Public.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 1 of Article 68 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Notaries Public", be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

1. The Governor on the approval of the application by the
Senator of the County or legislative district of Baltimore
