ized by Chapter 767 of 1943, although the funds for this had
been included in the Ordinance of Estimates for the year
1945; and
WHEREAS, it seems only fair and equitable that these re-
tired officers should be compensated for the amounts which
they would have received but for the inadvertent repeal of
Chapter 767 of 1943 to become effective June 1, 1945, instead
of January 1, 1946; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore is hereby
authorized and directed to pay the retired officers of the Po-
lice Department of said City the amounts which said officers
would have received had Chapter 931 of the Acts of 1945 re-
pealing Chapter 767 of 1943 been made to take effect Janu-
ary 1, 1946, instead of June 1, 1945.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
946 of Article 4 of the Public Local Laws of Maryland
and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition), title "Balti-
more City", sub-title "Special Fund", as amended by Chap-
ter 527 of the Acts of 1943, relating to the retirement of
employees of the Police Department of Baltimore City.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 946 of Article 4 of the Public Local Laws
of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition), title
"Baltimore City", sub-title "Special Fund", as amended by
Chapter 527 of the Acts of 1943, be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
946. In addition to the sums of money now authorized by
law to be paid out of the fund as above constituted and
designated, the said Police Commissioner is empowered when-
ever, in his opinion, the efficiency of the service may require
it, to retire any officer of police, policeman, detective, clerk
