WM. PRESTON LANE, JR., GOVERNOR. 1641

Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition),
title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Probation and Suspen-
sion of Sentence", relating to the appointment of pro-
bation workers, a Chief Probation Officer and super-
visory and administrative assistants.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland
That Section 456 of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938
Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Probation and
Suspension of Sentence", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

456. The Supreme Bench of Baltimore City may ap-
point a Chief Probation Officer, such supervisory and
administrative assistants and as many probation workers,
clerical assistants and other employees to carry out the
provisions of this sub-title as it may deem proper; and
from time to time, and without assigning any reason there-
for, may revoke the appointment of any one or more of
.such probation officers, administrative assistants and
probation workers, clerical assistants or other employees
so assigned to work in the Probation Department, as well
as any and all of such persons heretofore so appointed
or so assigned. Such persons may be selected by examina-
tion, held by, or under the authority or direction or consent
of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall
take effect June 1, 1947.

AN ACT to repeal Sections 231, 232, 233, 234 and 235, as
amended, of Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland, title "Howard County", sub-title "Police",
and to enact in lieu thereof five new sections, to be
known as Sections 231, 232, 233, 234 and 235, authorizing
the County Commissioners of Howard County to desig-
nate various localities in Howard County and to appoint
a police officer or officers to act as such officer or offi-
cers, within said locality or localities, defining the duties
