CHAPTER 595.
(Senate Bill 99)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 51 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Juries",
sub-title "Qualifications and Selection of Jurors", said
new section to be known as Section 6A, and to follow
immediately after Section 6 of said Article, qualifying
women to serve on juries and exempting certain counties
from the provisions thereof.
SECTION 1. Be it enactcd by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition),
title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification and Selection of
Jurors", said new section to be known as Section 6A, to
follow immediately after Section 6 of said Article, and
to read as follows:
6A. Hereafter no person shall be disqualified for ser-
vice as a juror in this State by reason of sex, but the
provisions of law relating to the qualifications of jurors
and exemption from jury duty shall in all cases apply to
women as well as men, and the lists from which jurors
are drawn shall include the names of men and women.
The provisions of this Section shall not apply to Allegany,
Calvert, Carroll, Charles, Garrett, Queen Anne's, Talbot,
Worcester, Howard, St. Mary's, Kent and Washington
Counties.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws or
parts of laws, general or local, inconsistent with the pro-
visions of this Act, be and they are hereby repealed to the
extent of such inconsistency.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1947.
