CHAPTER 533.
(Senate Bill 285)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
79 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1943 Supplement) as amended by Chapter 542 of the
Laws of 1945, title "Public Education", sub-title "Chap-
ter 7. Schools", to reduce the size of classes in elementary
schools.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 79 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1943 Supplement) as amended by Chapter 542
of the Laws of 1945, title "Public Education", sub-title
"Chapter 7. Schools", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

79. On and after July 1, 1951, whenever an elementary
school numbers more than thirty children in average
enrollment, an assistant may be employed by the county
board of education, or Board of School Commissioners of
Baltimore City; and for every additional thirty children,
one teacher shall be appointed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Section
shall take effect July 1, 1947.

CHAPTER 534.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
142, sub-section (4) of Article 77 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Public Educa-
tion" sub-title "Chapter 11. The County Superintendent
of Schools" to eliminate the positions of attendance offi-
cers and insert instead the positions of supervisor of
pupil personnel I, supervisor of pupil personnel II, and
visiting teacher, and to eliminate the last two para-
graphs which are obsolete.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (4) of Section 142 of Article 77 of the
