On motion by Mr. Lee,

The aforegoing appointments were referred to the Commit-
tee on Executive Nominations.

On motion by Mr. Bannon,

The Senate resumed the consideration of Legislative busi-
ness.

FRIDAY, February 1st, 1878.

Mr. Ford, from the Committee on Executive Nominations,
to which had been relerred the appointments for Directors in
the Maryland Penitentiary, reported that the Committee
were of opinion that said nominations ought to be confirmed.

Whereupon,

The Senate advised and consented to said nominations.
On motion by Mr. Ford,

The Senate resumed the consideration of Legislative busi-
ness.

TUESDAY, February 5th, 1878.

The following communications, which had been received
from His Excellency, Governor Carroll, by the hands of the
Hon. R. C. Hollyday, were read :
