Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Present at roll call the following Senators:

Dennis, Ford, Franklin, Freeman, Gorman, Hepbron, Hill,.
Humphreys, Joyce, Lancaster, Lee, Miller, Newcomer, Peter,
Steiner, Stump, Sulivane, Welfley, Wilson—23.

The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.

The President presented to the Senate the following com-
munication from the First Branch of the City Council of Bal-
timore:

FIRST BRANCH CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE,

Chief Clerk's Department, City Hall.

Baltimore, January 21, 1878.
Hon. Edward Lloyd, President of the Senate,

My Dear Sir: —I have the honor to submit the following
true copy of Resolutions, which have been adopted by both,
branches of the City Council, of Baltimore.

Resolved, By both branches of the City Council, of Balti-
more, that the Baltimore City delegation in. the General As-
sembly of Maryland, be and they are hereby respectfully re-
quested to further the passage of the bill now before the
Legislature, for the inspection of Coal Oil used for illuminat-
ing purposes, so as to, in some degree, prevent the loss of
human life from the use of oil of too low a standard.
