1878.] OF THE SENATE. 741

Also, favorably,

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal Section 46, of Article
29. of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Courts,"
sub-title "Sheriffs and Collectors," and to re-enact the same
so as to read as follows.

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Cooper, from the Committee on the Chesapeake Bay
and its Tributaries, reported favorably.

House bill entitled an Act for the better protection of oys-
ters in the waters of the Patuxent river, included within the
boundaries of Calvert County and St. Mary's County, be-
tween Point Patience and Sheridan's Point, iu Calvert
County, and Town Point and Long Point, in St. Mary's
County,

Which was read the second time.

Mr. Franklin, from the Committee on Elecetions, submitted
the following

REPORT.

The Committee on Elections, to whom was referred the
Senate bill entitled an Act to lay out and establish a new
election district in Caroline County, out of a portion of the
Third Election District in said county, to be called the Hills-
borough District, or District No. 6, together with amend-
ments proposed thereto, would report that in their opinion it is
inexpedient to take further action on the subject at the present
session of the Legislature, in consequence of the late period
of the session at which the bill was committed to their charge,
and the consequent difficulty of obtaining, in proper time for
legislative action, any evidence which may be required to-
satisfactorily determine the questions involved. The Com-
mittee are unable to perceive, from any information in their
possession, the necessity for haste or urgency in the matter,
and have no reason to believe that any public interest would
suffer materially from the delay. The Committee, therefore,
without attempting to judge the merits of the question,
would recommend that further action on the bill and amend-
ments be indefinitely postponed.

L. P. FRANKLIN,
JOHN S. COMBS,
JOHN H. COOPER,
WM. T. HEPBRON.
Which was read, and adopted.
