740 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 26,

TUESDAY, March 26th, 1878.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. J. H. Dashiell.
Present at roll call the following Senators.

Messrs. President, Bannon, Combs, of Allegany, Combs,
of St. Mary's, Cooper, Dennis, Ford, Franklin, Freeman,
Garey, Gorman, Hepbron, Hill, Humphreys, Joyce, Lan-
caster, Lee, McLane, Miller, Newcomer, Steiner, Stump,
Sulivane, Welfley, Wilson—25.

The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.

Mr. Cooper presented the petition of sundry citizens against
the opening of a street through the State cattle yards.

Which was read and referred to Senators Cooper, Joyce
and Freeman.

On motion by Mr. Freeman, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that the Sena-
tor from Garrett County was absent from the Senate on Thurs-
day, Friday and Monday last on private business.

On motion by Mr. Bannon, it was

Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on Claims
be, and he is hereby, directed to issue his certificate to Ed-
ward Powers (Janitor of the Senate) for three hundred dol-
lars for cleaning, airing and taking care of the Senate Cham-
ber, President's room and Committee rooms for the years
1876 and 1877.

On motion by Mr. Ford, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Senator
Feter is detained from the Senate on account of illness.

Mr. Dennis, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings,
reported favorably,

House bill entitled an Act to legalize the revised Code of
Public General Laws of Maryland, prepared by Louis Mayer,
Louis C. Fischer and E. L. D. Cross, and to subscribe for
copies of the same.

Which was read the second time.
