FRIDAY, January 11th, 1878.
Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. J. H. Dashiell,
Present at roll call the following Senators:

Messrs. Bannon, Combs, of Allegany, Combs, of St. Mary's,
Cooper, Dennis, Ford, Freeman, Garey, Gorman, Hepbron,
Humphreys, Joyce, Lancaster, Lee, McLane, Miller, New-
comer, Peter, Steiner. Stump, Sulivane, Welfley, Wilson —
23.

The President of the Senate being absent from the seat of
government, the Senate proceeded to the election of a Presi-
dent pro tem., and,

On motion by Mr. McLane,
Mr. Dennis was elected President pro tem
The proceedings of yesterday were real and approved.

Mr. Sulivane presented the petition of Catharine M. Can-
non, praying the assignment to her of the State's interest in
certain personal assets of Cyntice Cannon, a deceased intes-
tate, born out of wedlock.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

The President presented to the Senate the following com-
munication from Hon. Barnes Compton, Treasurer of the
State:

Annapolis, Jan. 10, 1878.

Hons Edward Lloyd, Prudent of the Senate, and

Fetter S. Hoblitzell, Speaker of the House of Delegates:

GENTLEMEN: While acknowledging the receipt of your fa-
vor of the 9th instant, informing me officially of my election
by the Legislature to the position of Treasurer of the State,
permit me to express to, you and the respective bodies over
which you preside, my grateful appreciation of this twice-
repeated manifestation of good will and confidence.
