by the Act of 1868, Chapter 330, and to re-enact the same
with, amendments, and add additional sections tbereto.
Which was read the second time.

Mr. Lee, from a Select Committee, reported favorably,
House bill entitled an Act for the better protection of fish
in the waters of Frederick and Carroll Counties.

Which was read the second time.

The President announced as unfinished business,

Senate bill entitled an Act to prescribe and define the du-
ties of the Comptroller of the Treasury, relative to the ap-
portionment and distribution of the revenue derived from
the annual tax levied for the support of free public schools,
and to confirm the apportionments and distributions thereof
heretofore made by that office,

Being upon its second reading,

Mr. Sulivane submitted the following amendments :
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Strike out Sections "1 and 2," and insert the following:

"Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That in apportioning and distributing the tax levied
for educational purposes, the Comptroller shall apportion
and distribute the whole of the same as now provided by
law, and shall in addition thereto apportion and distribute
whatsoever sum shall be appropriated to colored schools,
upon the basis now provided, or that may hereafter be pro-
vided by law."

"Section 2. And be it enacted, That all sums levied as ap-
propriated for educational purposes, shall be in the language
of the Constitution, kept inviolate, and in every case shall
be apportioned and distributed by the Comptroller on the
basis of the apportionment made by the present or any
future school law, and shall not be used for any, other pur-
pose whatsoever."

Strike out Section "3" of the bill.

Pending the consideration of said amendments,

Mr. Stump moved to refer said bill, together with said
amendments, to the Committee on Education.

At 3.50, P. M., the Senate adjourned by yeas and nays as
