390 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 21,

Act to provide for the completion of the Chesapeake and Ohio
Canal to Cumberland, and for other purposes, in so far as said
Act relates to putting and keeping the said Chesapeake and
Ohio Canal in good condition and repair, and to make the
said Canal an effective means of transportation.

The President announced the order of the day to he the
following bill:

Senate bill entitled an Act to proscribe and define the du-
ties of the Comptroller of the Treasury relative to the appor-
tionment and distribution of the revenue derived from the
annual tax levied for the support of free public schools, and
to confirm the apportionments and distributions thereof,
heretofore made by that officer,

Being upon its second reading,

Mr. Stump moved tbat said bill be referred to the Commit-
tee on Education.

Pending the consideration of said motion,

At 1.10 P. M.,

Mr. Bannon moved a call of the Senate.

The Sergeant-at-Arms was directed to notify absent Sena-
tors that their presence was required in the Senate Cham-
ber.

At 1.15 P. M.,

On motion by Mr. Bannon,
Further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.

Mr. Stump then withdrew said motion to refer said bill to
the Committee on Education.

Pending the consideration of said bill,

The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared, and deliv-
ered the following message:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

February 21, 1878.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We have received your message proposing tbat when the
two Houses adjourn to-day, they stand adjourned until Tues-
day, the 26th February, instant, at 12 o'clock, and non-con-
cur therein.
